Purpose of the Role:
The Senior Audit Manager leads and manages a team of Audit Managers on an assignment basis across a portfolio of business areas or regional activities. The incumbent has collaborative responsibility with peers for leadership and management of the Audit function. Ownership for a portfolio of audit assignments end to end across key business areas reporting to the Portfolio Director including responsibility for ensuring the quality of audit work undertaken in line with Global Internal Audit Standards. Relationship management, subject matter expert (SME) and continuous business monitoring with Executive and Senior Management developing audit opinions based on sound technical judgment in key areas of the business and gaining buy-in to audit results. Supporting and deputising for the Portfolio Director at key business meetings including Country Boards. Execution of advisory or consulting activities as required by the Chief Auditor, Portfolio Director and as agreed with Executive Management. Attendance at key steering groups and risk committee meetings. Production of reporting / management information for the function and to the business. Informing and producing macro audit plans for key significant areas of the business. Effective delivery of audit verification activity in key business areas of responsibility plus assigned countries. Delivery of assigned internal risk and efficiency projects and key departmental initiatives supporting Audit’s continuous improvement and business plans.
Key Accountabilities:
- Develops and maintains expertise and acts as key relationship contact and the centre of Audit / controls excellence or subject matter expert (SME) for larger business areas.
- Owns a portfolio of audit assignments end to end across key business areas reporting to the Portfolio Director, including responsibility for ensuring the quality of audit work undertaken in line with global professional standards.
- Effectively and efficiently leads and supervises a team of Audit Managers on an assignment basis across a portfolio of business areas or regional activities.
- Informs and produces macro audit planning for key significant areas of the business and supporting the risk scoring of audit entities.
- Owns the effective delivery of audit verification activity in key business areas ensuring audit standards / timelines are met.
- Manages complex / technical audit assignments and consulting activities ensuring value added input and appropriate controls expertise is provided including for critical change programmes.
- Knowledge of strategic plans and policies of the relevant areas and a detailed knowledge of the services and products involved, as well as an understanding of key projects and systems being implemented within areas of audit responsibility.
- Ensures Audit methodology and associated tools are implemented in line with internal Bank and global IIA standards.
- Develops and maintains a continuing presence in the business by attending meetings as requested.
- Administration of the function which includes:
- Effectively and efficiently leads and supervises a team of Audit Managers from an operational audit completion perspective.
- Manages and coaches Audit Managers on an assignment basis.
- Shares collaborative leadership responsibility for the function across the Audit function’s senior management team.
- Supports and deputises for the Audit Director at key business meetings including risk committees and assigned countries
- Delivers internal projects and key departmental initiatives gaining input from resources from the team as appropriate.
Knowledge Required:
- Solid understanding of financial services issues, including regulatory requirements.
- High level of expertise in internal audit techniques and knowledge of audit standards and best practice / or leading edge skills in specialist technical areas.
- Specialist knowledge within the business, e.g. credit risk, finance, IT, treasury, bank operations, etc.
- More than 6 years post qualification experience in core professional qualifications, e.g. CIA, CISA, CRMA, CFSA, ACCA, and ACIB.
- Specialist training and / or experience in the area of specialty, e.g. CFE, CMA, CGA, CISSP, PMP, etc.

- Ability to gain respect, trust and co-operation of area of audit responsibility whilst maintaining objectivity and independence through excellent interpersonal skills – able to develop and manage quality relationships with staff of different levels and, in particular, with senior executives
Experience Required:
- Industry experience at middle management level.
- Significant experience of leading and coordinating professional teams / complex assignments at a group or regional level.
- High quality auditing skills supported by long term detailed experience.
- Very good business expertise / knowledge in areas such as Retail markets, Technology & Operations, Corporate & Investment Banking, Finance, Treasury, Risk & Administration functions.
