What is the opportunity?
In this role you will lead the Caribbean local tax team who is responsible for all corporate taxation matters throughout the 11 jurisdictions where RBC operates in the Caribbean. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to tax advisory, tax compliance, tax planning, and representing RBC at various Inland Revenue Departments, Courts of Law and with external professional accounting and legal firms throughout the region.
What will you do?
- Provide expert advice and counsel to Caribbean Banking Business Units, Functional and Transaction Operations based on research and in accordance with relevant tax legislations, such as corporate income tax, VAT, turnover tax and withholding tax
- Identify, implement and manage tax planning (operational and structural) activities for the RBC Caribbean Operation with key emphasis on providing strategic support to our business partners and enhancing shareholder value
- Proactively seek opportunities to improve tax deliverables aligned with Taxation’s Future of Tax agenda
- Ensure RBC Caribbean tax reporting and tax compliance obligations are met in accordance with regulations with regards to corporate income tax
- Represent the organization before relevant taxing authorities in the region. Lead and manage regional tax audits and tax litigation matters within the Caribbean region
- Report Caribbean Tax matters and exposures to RBC Tax Group (Canada) on a regular basis
- Lead the Caribbean tax team to support local Group Finance Team with respect to corporation income tax provision review and complex tax accounting in accordance with IFRS
What do you need to succeed?
- A qualified professional accountant or lawyer in good standing with a minimum of 10 - 15 years relevant tax experience.
- In-depth knowledge of Trinidad and Tobago Tax Laws and Caribbean Tax Laws (including Barbados, Eastern Caribbean and Dutch Caribbean).
- Exceptional skills in tax dispute resolution and in interpreting tax consequences to financial statement tax reporting.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) to effectively communicate to senior management. Strategic planning and demonstrated leadership abilities.
- A change management attitude and a strong voice at the table.
- Demonstrate and actively promote RBC’s Values and Leadership Model.
- Strong knowledge of Caribbean Banking environment (banking operations and products / services).
