St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) is an ambitious and growing hospital organization on St. Maarten. With more than 425 FTE’s, 28 Specialists and a capacity of 80 beds, we continuously strive to ensure safe, quality health care. Our primary service area of St. Maarten, Statia and Saba, represents a total population of approximately 60.000 people, constituting a multi-cultural mix with more than 100 different nationalities. In addition, we also offer health care services to the two million visitors annually. SMMC has started the construction of the new St. Maarten General Hospital (SMGH) to expand its services in order to accommodate the increased care demand of the people of St. Maarten, its visitors and neighboring islands. The new hospital is planned to be operational in 2026.
Your Profile:
As a Food Service Assistant, you are responsible for preparing and serving meals and drinks to patients on the in-patient wards. You also assist with the preparation of warm lunches in order for the organization to provide an optimal food service within the general guidelines and pre-determined service levels of the hospital. Requirements:
• A VSBO diploma or equivalent;
• HACCP Certification and knowledge of hygienic standards;
• 2-3 years experience with food handling and preparation in a similar position;
• Good interpersonal and communication skills;
• Friendly and a team player with a high level of reliability;
• The ability to speak and understand English is essential for processing patients’ dietary information;
• Comprehension of an additional language (e.g., Dutch, Spanish, Papiamentu, French or Creole) is considered an asset.
Tasks:
• Prepares the breakfast, evening meal and drinks for the wards, including cold water, coffee, and tea;
• Assists with the preparation of warm lunches e.g. setting up trays, preparing desserts, preparing cafeteria, and placing food in food warmers;
• Makes preparations for warm and cold meals e.g. cutting meat, slicing cold cuts, cutting lettuce, etc;
• Gathers information about new patients or diet changes and handles incoming calls for meals and diet request forms from the wards;
• Prepares and wraps sandwiches or snacks on request;
• Reporting stock shortages and storing deliveries;
• Assisting in keeping the kitchen environment clean, tidy and aligned with the hospital’s hygiene and infection control policies.
